Is the Chrysler Voyager the Same as the Pacifica?

The Chrysler Voyager and Pacifica are closely related, but not exactly the same. Both of these vehicles are built upon the same platform and have many of the same components, but they do have some differences. One of the key differences is price point, as the Voyager is a budget-friendly alternative to the Pacifica.

What's the History and Evolution of the Pacifica & Voyager?

The Chrysler Pacifica replaced the Town & Country in 2017 and has proved to be very popular, but it didn't fit everyone's budget. So, Chrysler decided to add to their product line. In 2020, Chrysler reintroduced the Voyager to their lineup, offering customers the same versatility as the luxurious Pacifica minivan, but at a lower cost. To create a very similar line, Chrysler took the lower-level trims of the Pacifica and rebranded them into the Voyager line. Voyager is often sold as rental cars and fleet vehicles thanks to the pricing.

What Are the Key Differences Between the Voyager and Pacifica?

Voyager

  • Offers basic options, typically with up to 3 trim options: L, LX, & LXi. The LXi trims are being reserved for fleets
  • It has cloth seating and doesn't offer many convenience features
  • This minivan offers more basic infotainment options, with limited tech upgrades available to buyers
  • It often has the same engine, but lacks AWD and a plug-in hybrid option
  • Voyager comes with standard safety features but lacks many advanced options

Pacifica

  • Offers more luxury options when it comes to the trim levels (Select, Limited & Pinnacle), such as leather, panoramic roof, and advanced infotainment
  • Has optional leather and higher-end materials for the interior and seating
  • Technology includes Uconnect 5 and options for rear-seat entertainment
  • Pacifica can offer AWD and has a plug-in hybrid option
  • It also offers more advanced driver assistance safety features, such as adaptive cruise and lane centering

What Are the Similarities Between the Voyager and Pacifica?

While there are differences between these models, they still have similarities. They have the same basic body design, chassis, and, in most cases, engine. Their base trims have the same safety ratings, and the gas models have similar fuel economy. They also have comparable cabin space and cargo capacity. All in all, they both have Chrysler's signature ride comfort and family-friendliness.

Did the Voyager Replace the Pacifica?

Make no mistake, the Chrysler Pacifica remains the flagship minivan. There has been some confusion regarding whether the Voyager is replacing the Pacifica, similar to how the Pacifica replaced the Town and Country; however, that's not the case here. The creation of Voyager replaces the lower trim levels of the Pacifica to make it more affordable for family and fleet owners. In some markets, Voyager is limited to special orders and fleet sales.

Which One Is Right for You?

Determining the right model for you will be based on your particular needs.

The Voyager is an excellent choice when you're looking for a reliable, budget-friendly minivan that offers basic features and functionality without needing the extras. The Pacifica is the perfect choice when you're looking to have all of the positives that come from the Voyager, but you're looking for comfortable luxury. You want a more premium experience with the interior and tech, AWD, and the options for a plug-in hybrid.
